About us.
We are a peace loving community in the GTA, caring for the welfare of our people and contributing to the common good in the Greater Toronto Area.

Our Mission
To promote and preserve our Igbo culture, traditions and heritage, while encouraging a smooth cultural integration with other cultures in Canada. The Owerri Zone Community in Toronto is a non-profit organization established by some Igbo indigenes from Owerri Senatorial Zone in Imo State, Nigeria, residing in Toronto, for the purpose of promoting unity, progress, information sharing, advocacy and cultural understanding amongst its members and the rest of the society.
How we started
The organization was created in the early 1990’sby a few people living in Toronto who came together to perform a traditional mourning of a member’s parent who passed away. This show of solidarity and support of a member gave rise to the formalization of the group and it expanded rapidly to include all others from the Owerri Senatorial Zone as we know it today. It has transformed into a strong and vibrant and enviable community in Toronto Canada. To show our rich and vibrant cultural heritage, the community holds a bi-annual event called the “Owerri-Day”, which attracts the greater community of Africans living in Greater Toronto Area and visitors from around the world.

Our Men
Our men are family oriented community builders who live in harmony with others. They are responsible professionals and business entrepreneurs.
Our women
Our women are the backbone of our thriving families who combine professionalism with daily upbringing of their families. Rich in culture and active participants in all spheres of the community building.
Our Youth
The youth are our future who show vibrant interest in our community as they forge their world ahead in a competitive environment in institutions and work places.
What we do
We are constantly looking out for new arrivals from Owerrizone of Imo State who arrive in the GTA, to provide them with vital information to guide them and help them settle.
